Stephen Curry is still the BEST and MOST VALUABLE player on the Warriors

We all remember Steph Curry as the type of player that nobody could stop, an elite scorer with a killer instinct, who could easily score 40 a night, taking ridiculous shots from the 3-point land. However, Curry accepted to share the fame with Kevin Durant and took a step back, while focusing on being a better playmaker and facilitator. That’s why we don’t see the outstanding version of Steph very often, like we used to do. At any rate, Curry has stepped his game up and is more efficient since KD’s arrival. It was game 3 of the Western Conference Finals against the Rockets, when Curry shouted “This is my f… house” as the Golden State Warriors were demolishing the Houston Rockets. The MVP version of Steph Curry is still alive and better than ever! In order for this side to be shown, Durant just has to take a step back.

When Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant were both on the floor this season, Curry averaged 26.2 Points per 36 minutes. But when Kevin Durant was on the bench, well… Curry averaged 40.5 Points per 36 minutes of action. Furthermore, the Warriors’ net rating was better when Curry was on the court and Durant was sitting on the bench. That’s just a sample of how amazing Stephen Curry is without KD.

Let’s take a look at Durant’s scoring numbers with and without Steph Curry. When Durant was playing alongside Steph, he averaged 26.1 Points per 36 minutes. Without Curry, he averaged 29.6. Put each player’s numbers side by side:

Curry without KD: +14.3 Points per 36 minutes

KD without Curry: +3.5 Points per 36 minutes

That is not even comparable…

Let’s go back in March of 2017 when Kevin Durant was injured. The Golden State Warriors went on a 13-Game Winning Streak. Curry averaged 27.5 points on 50.2 FG% and 47.8 3PT%. It’s also worth mentioning that Steph won a Championship for the Warriors in 2015, against the 4-time MVP LeBron James.
